Subnetting is crucial for several of different reasons when it comes to network management and even optimizing it. Subnetting allows you to use IP address space more efficiently through the division of larger networks into smaller more manageable smaller networks. This is a big deal due to the limited availability of IPv4 addresses as it is. Improper subnetting results in a usually a large number of IP addresses that might be wasted. Doing it properply ensures you have the IPv4 addresses needed minimizing waste and if you need more you can possibly expand your network depending on scalability. With smaller networks you also get better security in the form of isolation of those smaller networks. With that you have better access control on which devices can communicate with each other further enhancing security through improved access management.
